The first international Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational presented by Vans went down July 29 and 30 during the Salinas Longboard Festival, with 16 of the best longboarders in the world riding 12-lb, single fin leashless boards along with some serious style and nose riding all for a $10,000 purse.
Friday’s opening rounds saw perfect, glassy 3-4 feet waves and the guys showed a huge variety of stylish, classic maneuvers, while Saturday’s afternoon finals picked up with sets of 5 feet high waves and strong cross winds. Surfers and spectators experienced a magical atmosphere when it came down to a final heat of Justin Quintal (2X Duct Tape Champ), Al Knost (Defending Champ), Tyler Warren and Jared Mell. This event had some of the best surfing from any of the Duct Tapes, and not just the final, but the entire event.
